Galacto-oligosaccharides, or GOS for short, are short chains of galactose capped with glucose. They are made enzymatically from lactose and occur naturally in human breast milk, among other sources. They count as soluble fibre: digestive enzymes do not break them down in the small intestine, so they travel on to the large intestine, where gut bacteria process them.
In this pack, GOS is the only ingredient. The raw material is Biotis GOS High Purity from FrieslandCampina in the Netherlands, one of the largest dairy producers in Europe. The powder is fine, free-flowing and only mildly sweet. It mixes into water, yoghurt, porridge or a smoothie without changing their taste.
That gives you soluble fibre as a standalone ingredient you can dose yourself, and you can take it alongside probiotics too. There is 63 g of fibre per 100 g, and the 11 g daily dose is about four teaspoons. The 400 g pack lasts around five weeks.

Directions
The daily dose is 11 g, about four level teaspoons. Stir it into water, yoghurt, porridge or a smoothie, warm drinks are fine too. If you don't normally eat much fibre, start with half a dose and build up gradually over the first week. It can be combined with probiotics.
