OPRO ranges, children's sizes, braces and how to check the fit.
How do Bronze, Silver, Gold and Instant Custom Fit differ?
Bronze uses a fitting handle; Silver and Gold use a fitting tray. Gold adds a different ComfortElite gel lining with impression fins. Instant Custom Fit has three layers and a dual compression cage in the adult version.
Choose by construction and fit, rather than colour or the UFC logo. A higher range cannot make up for the wrong size or poor moulding.
Which size should I choose for a child?
OPRO labels Junior / Youth for children under 10 and Adult / Senior for ages 10 and up. These ages are a guide, as mouth size varies. Check the exact variant on the product page and packaging before buying; the range name alone does not identify the size.
If your child is between sizes or their teeth are changing, check the choice with the manufacturer or a dentist. An adult should handle the hot-water fitting process.
Can I use a standard mouthguard with fixed braces?
A standard model is not automatically suitable for braces. OPRO makes separate versions labelled Braces. The name Gold or Instant Custom Fit alone does not confirm suitability. Check the exact version before moulding and ask your orthodontist whether it is suitable for your appliance.
How do I mould it, and what if the first attempt does not fit?
Identify the exact range and size, then use the matching OPRO instructions and fitting video. Have a timer and the supplied fitting device ready. Heating times and fitting methods vary between models; do not borrow instructions from another mouthguard.
OPRO self-fit models can be remoulded according to the manufacturer's instructions. If yours still slips or presses uncomfortably, check the size and technique with OPRO support; do not try to fix it by cutting the material by guesswork.
How can I tell whether my mouthguard fits properly?
Once moulded, it should stay on your upper teeth without constant clenching. Relax your bite, speak and breathe calmly. It should not fall out, cause painful pressure or have an edge that irritates your mouth. Resolve any fit problems before contact training.
How should I clean and store it after training?
Rinse it under cool running water and let it dry completely, then store it in a clean, ventilated case. For deeper cleaning, use a mouthguard cleaner as directed. Do not share your mouthguard. Hot water during routine cleaning, radiators and hot cars can distort its shape.
When do I need a new mouthguard?
Replace it if it cracks, has been bitten through, becomes thin or no longer fits securely. For children, check the fit after growth and changes to their teeth. OPRO recommends replacement at least once a year for regular athletes; replace a damaged or poorly fitting guard sooner.
