What should I compare in citrate, bisglycinate and other forms?
Start with the amount of zinc itself per recommended serving. Viridian Zinc Citrate contains 15 mg of zinc per capsule; BJP Zinc Bisglycinate Complex contains 20 mg per capsule. These are also different formulas, not just different mineral forms. ‘Chelated’ or a larger figure does not automatically mean a better choice; check other ingredients and the supplements you already use.
Does a zinc supplement always contain only zinc?
No. In 4 capsules, Reflex Zinc Matrix contains 30 mg of zinc plus 375 mg of magnesium, vitamin B6, copper and boron. If you already use magnesium or a multivitamin, these ingredients may overlap. Check the full blend before adding another supplement; a combined formula does not mean you can ignore the totals.
Why do some blends also contain copper?
A high zinc intake over time can reduce copper absorption. Some formulas therefore contain both minerals; BJP Zinc Bisglycinate Complex, for example, also provides 1 mg of copper per capsule. Its presence does not cancel the risks of excess zinc. Do not automatically add more zinc or copper, and discuss any need for prolonged higher-dose supplementation with a qualified health professional.
Is oyster extract the same as a zinc capsule?
No. Oyster Max contains 1500 mg of oyster extract in 5 capsules, providing 1.95 mg of zinc and other ingredients. Extract weight is not zinc content. It is also an animal-derived ingredient and a mollusc allergen: the product is neither vegan nor suitable for a mollusc allergy, despite having a plant-based capsule shell.
