How to choose a multivitamin
What a blend actually contains, how to compare packs and what to check when combining supplements.
Does every multivitamin contain all vitamins and minerals?
No. Kids Multi Vitality, for example, lists 8 vitamins, whereas Trace Mineral Complex is a blend of trace minerals. Being listed in this category does not mean a product has a complete formula. Look for specific nutrients and their amounts in the table; a supplement also cannot replace a varied diet, its fibre or its other components.
How can I tell how long a pack will last?
Divide the capsule count by the number of capsules in the stated daily serving. BJP Multi-Immunity contains 90 capsules, but a serving is 3 capsules, so it lasts 30 days. Compare prices on the same basis when choosing between packs. This product's tables describe the whole serving, not the amount in each individual capsule.
Is a multivitamin better with or without iron?
That depends on whether you need additional iron. BJP Multi-Immunity contains 14 mg of iron in 3 capsules, while Puhdistamo Moni Vitamiini has no added iron. A higher amount is not automatically a better choice. Do not rely solely on labels such as “for women” or “for men”; if you suspect a deficiency, discuss the cause and testing with a doctor.
Can I add other vitamins and minerals to a multivitamin?
First add up the same nutrients across your routine. For example, BJP Multi-Immunity already provides 12.5 µg of vitamin D and 10 mg of zinc in 3 capsules. Also check for overlap with magnesium blends containing vitamin B6. Choose any additional product to address a missing nutrient, rather than automatically adding another complete blend.
Can I simply split an adult multivitamin for a child?
Do not work out a child's serving by dividing an adult capsule. Nutrigums Kids Multi Vitality has its own age guidance: 1 gummy daily from age 5 and 2 gummies from age 11; its table is for 2 gummies. It contains maltitol and sorbitol, which can have a laxative effect if consumed excessively. Follow the specific children's label and account for their other supplements.
