Choosing and using hand wraps
Length, material, tension and care between training sessions.
What length of hand wraps do I need?
Shorter 2.5 m wraps may suit smaller hands or a simpler wrapping pattern. 4–4.5 m gives you more material around the knuckles and wrists; longer wraps can suit larger hands or more extensive wrapping. Your technique and the space in your gloves matter too, not just your age.
180″ is approximately 4.57 m, so it is not the same as 4 m. If you are new to hand wraps, ask your coach to check your first wrap.
Should I choose cotton or elastic wraps?
Cotton can be stretchy too. BJP wraps, for example, contain cotton and elastane, while Venum offers elastic cotton. Check both the composition and the description of the stretch. A stretchy strip follows your hand's shape, but do not pull it to its limit while wrapping. Non-stretch wraps need careful placement to avoid folds.
Is the price for one wrap or a pair?
BJP 4 m wraps come as two strips, each four metres long: one pair for both hands. For other models, check the pack contents in the product details. The length alone does not tell you how many wraps are included.
How tight should wraps feel inside my gloves?
After wrapping, open your hand and make a natural fist, then put your glove on. The wrap should stay in place without folds pressing into your hand. Tingling, numbness or pain mean you need to remove it and adjust the wrap. If the glove feels too tight, ask your coach to check the layers and glove fit; do not force your hand inside.
Can quick gel wraps replace traditional hand wraps?
Gel inner gloves are quicker to put on and add padding over the knuckles. A traditional strip gives you more control over how you wrap your wrist, knuckles and between your fingers. With gel wraps, check the size, wrist-strap length and fit inside your gloves. Follow the model's intended use for your training; do not assume an inner glove can replace a boxing glove.
How do I wash wraps, and when should I replace them?
Unroll them after training rather than leaving them damp in your bag. Follow the care instructions for your model. BJP 4 m wraps specify hand-washing the textile at 30°C; wipe the leather end with a cloth and avoid prolonged soaking. Let the wraps dry fully before using them again.
Replace them if they tear, the hook-and-loop fastening stops holding, or the material no longer keeps its shape when wrapped. Age alone does not tell you their condition.
Try gloves on with the wraps you plan to use: boxing gloves and MMA gloves may have different amounts of room inside.
