Which swim shorts have a mesh lining and which do not?
BJP Navy and Venum Echo have a mesh lining; BJP MONOLITH V1 and V2 do not. If you find mesh uncomfortable, these two MONOLITH models offer an alternative.
Our Venum Aqua description does not specify the lining type. If this is a deciding factor, contact us before ordering. The term board shorts alone does not tell you whether there is a mesh lining.
How do the Navy, MONOLITH and Venum fabrics differ?
BJP Navy's outer fabric is 100% polyamide. MONOLITH V1/V2 and Venum Echo use 95% polyester and 5% elastane. Spandex is another name for elastane. Venum Aqua specifies 100% polyester.
Stretch fibres give with movement but do not replace a suitable size. When trying the shorts on, check for pulling across the thighs and crotch; composition alone does not tell you the leg length or whether there is a lining.
How should swim shorts fit at the waist and thighs?
The waistband should stay in place without digging in, and the legs should allow a squat and a long stride. Navy, MONOLITH V2 and Venum Echo/Aqua let you adjust the waist with a drawstring. A drawstring cannot fix a large excess of fabric.
Compare your waist with the individual model's chart if available. Distinguish body circumference, garment circumference and width measured flat; an unstretched elastic waistband measurement is not its maximum circumference. Try shorts on over underwear at home and check the leg length when seated.
What pockets do the shorts have, and will my phone stay dry?
Swim-short pockets are not waterproof. Navy has two side pockets and a back pocket with a hook-and-loop flap and drainage eyelet. Echo has open side pockets and a back pocket; MONOLITH V1/V2 specify one back pocket.
A drainage eyelet lets water out; it does not prevent water getting in. Remove your phone, keys and cards before swimming. A flap or closure alone does not protect contents from water or loss.
How should I care for swim shorts after the pool or sea?
Rinse out salt or chlorine with clean water after swimming. Navy, MONOLITH, Echo and Aqua specify washing at 30°C and no tumble drying. Let them air-dry and avoid leaving them wet in a closed bag for long periods.
Navy should not be ironed at all; do not iron the print on MONOLITH or Aqua. Always follow the individual garment's care label. Quick-drying does not mean the shorts can skip rinsing after use.
