Serine is an amino acid that exists in two mirror-image forms. The common dietary form is L-serine, a building block of proteins. D-serine is its mirror image, the so-called dextro form, and it has a different role in the body: it does not build proteins but works as a signalling molecule. It occurs naturally, mostly in the brain, where it binds to the same site of the NMDA receptor as glycine.

Ergomax capsules contain D-serine of over 99% purity, 500 mg per capsule. Apart from the amino acid there is only rice concentrate as a processing aid and a plant-based cellulose capsule. Free from gluten, soy, GMO and gelatine, suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Ergomax is a Dutch food supplement brand; we also carry its GOS prebiotics.

The pack holds 100 capsules, which is 50 g of D-serine. At the label dose of six capsules a day it lasts about sixteen days. Anyone starting with one or two capsules a day has a supply for two to three months.

Directions

According to the manufacturer's label, 3 capsules twice a day with a meal, i.e. 3,000 mg of D-serine per day, or as recommended by a physician or therapist. If you prefer a careful start, take one or two capsules a day and increase the dose gradually. The distributor reports documented use of up to 2,000 mg a day for six weeks. Do not exceed the dose stated on the label.
