Detailed information

Product detailed description

Greek mountain tea, malotira to the Greeks, has held its place since antiquity. Theophrastus and Dioscorides both wrote about it, and Greece still drinks it today, above all in the mountain villages. It is brewed from a plant of the genus Sideritis, which belongs to the same family as mint, sage and lavender.

This tea is grown by 1450 Hellenic Exceptional Herbs in the village of Kotili in the Grammos range, at altitudes of 1,300 to 1,520 metres. That is exactly where, and in exactly the conditions in which, Sideritis grows wild. The number in the brand name is the altitude of the village. Forests and natural springs surround the fields, day and night temperatures swing sharply, and a strong northerly wind blows across them.

It is picked and processed by hand, and only the flowers of Sideritis raeseri go into the pack, nothing else. No added flavourings, no preservatives, no gluten and no caffeine, so a cup late in the evening is no problem. Choose between a 20 g box with filters and an 80 g pouch of loose tea.

Main benefits

  • 1,450 metres above sea level – fields in the Grammos range, at 1,300 to 1,520 metres, far from any city
  • Flowers only – pure Sideritis raeseri, no stalks and nothing else mixed in
  • Certified organic – GR-BIO-13 and CZ-BIO-002, grown with no chemicals at all
  • Caffeine free – it will not keep you up, so it works in the evening too
  • Handwork – picking and processing are done by people, not machines
  • Two packs – a 20 g box with 20 filters and 5 sticks, or an 80 g pouch of loose tea

Preparation

Use 2 g of tea per cup. Heat the water to just under boiling, about 95 °C, and steep for roughly five minutes. Sweeten with honey and finish with a squeeze of lemon. In summer let it cool and serve it as iced tea.

Ingredients

Dried mountain tea flowers (Sideritis raeseri) from organic farming, 100 %. Country of origin Greece. Certified GR-BIO-13, CZ-BIO-002.

Warning

Herbal tea, not a substitute for a varied diet. Store in a dark, dry place and keep it away from light. The 80 g pack is loose tea, with no filters or sticks. The best before date is stated on the pack.
