An organic extra virgin olive oil from Arcadia in Greece that differs from ordinary olive oil by one number: its polyphenol content. The 2023 harvest came in at 2,110mg per kilo, measured by NMR spectroscopy. Unfiltered, cold pressed, in a 200ml ceramic bottle.

Behind the oil sits The Greek Olive Estate, a family business founded in 2012 by Costas Mathiopoulos in the village of Kato Rizospilia, in the municipality of Gortynia in the Peloponnese. The trees grow on the slopes of the mountain valleys of the river Alfeios, on the route travellers once took to Olympia. The olives are picked in October and processed within a few hours of harvest so they hold on to as much of their polyphenol content as possible.

The oil is meant for cold use: over salads, over finished dishes, on good bread, or straight off the spoon. The variety is Olympia or Choraitiki depending on the harvest. Organic status is certified by the Greek body BioHellas SA, and the oil is bottled in limited numbers.

How to use it

Use the oil cold: over salads, over finished dishes, on bread, or straight off the spoon. It does not belong in a hot pan, this oil earns its keep cold. Two tablespoons work out at roughly 20g of oil.

Warnings
