A donkey milk darkmilk carrying an earthy trace of Himalayan resin. Black Donkey is built on selected cocoa, fresh pressed cocoa butter and freeze dried donkey milk, into which Naive worked Bhutanese Dakini shilajit. The result is a 69% bar with no added sugar, a dense dairy body and a leathery finish.
Shilajit is a resinous material collected by hand from rock faces in Bhutan at around 4,500 metres. In chocolate it behaves like a strong spice: it adds earthy, mineral depth and a faint resin trail that the donkey milk rounds off. In flavour terms this is a bar for a grown up palate, not for a dessert mood.
The shilajit announces itself by smell the moment you open the wrapper. Given the price and the size, it is a weekend experience or a gift rather than an everyday bar.

How to enjoy it

Naive: bean-to-bar chocolate from Lithuania that treats cacao like wine
Naive is a small Lithuanian chocolate maker with an unusual approach.
