Take the fang artwork of the Silver Jawz and move it one level up: the black and gold Gold Jawz runs the finer ComfortElite gel with impression fins inside. It pairs the loud graphic with the level the manufacturer recommends for frequent competition.

The build is dual-layer. The firmer outer layer absorbs impact and holds the shape, while the inside carries ComfortElite gel with impression fins that press into the gaps between your teeth as you bite down. Moulding happens inside the patented Compression Cage, which spreads the pressure evenly across the whole arch instead of loading the front teeth alone.

Why the Gold level and not the cheaper Silver? The gel inside is different, impression fins follow the dentition more closely than classic fitting fins, and OPRO states a dental warranty of up to €15,000 on Gold against €12,500 on Silver. The recommended use differs as well: Gold is aimed at frequent competition and high-impact sport, Silver at regular training and matches once a week.

How to fit it

1. Get a ceramic bowl of freshly boiled water ready, so around 100 °C.
2. Hold the guard in it for exactly 20 seconds, not a moment longer. The OPRO self-fit ranges need twenty seconds; thirty belongs to the Instant Custom Fit.
3. Lift it out with a spoon, tip it over so the hot water runs off, then give it ten firm shakes.
4. Seat it in the Compression Cage fitting tray, centre the tray on your upper teeth and bite down hard. Stay there for 30 to 60 seconds and press on your lips and cheeks as you go, so the material closes onto teeth and gums.
5. Open the bite, remove the tray and drop the guard into cold water for half a minute.

The material can be remoulded. If the result does not sit right, run through the whole procedure again.

Specifications

Care and lifespan

Rinse the guard in cold water after training, let it dry and only then close it in its case. Hot water, the dishwasher and direct sun all deform the material, and so does leaving it in a hot car. For a deeper clean, use the tablets made for mouthguards and removable dental appliances. Replace it once it cracks, stops holding its grip or has been bitten through, and with children also as soon as the dentition has visibly changed.

Warning

The guard is not intended for wearers of fixed braces, for which OPRO makes a separate Gold Braces model. It does not replace a guard made to measure by a dentist. The manufacturer honours the dental warranty only once the guard has been registered and under its own terms. Moulding involves boiling water, so mind the scalding risk.
