Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D Boxing Gloves - Khaki
Product detailed description
Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D · Khaki
A first pair of gloves that will stand up to regular training
The Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D are boxing gloves from the entry-level Contender series: they absorb impact on the bag and in sparring and are built for use three to four times a week. They are a sensible choice if you are starting boxing, kickboxing or Muay Thai and want gloves that will last beyond the first few lessons.

Injected foam and a wide strap around the wrist
The padding is multi-density injected foam that absorbs the shock of each punch. A wide hook-and-loop strap wraps around the wrist and lets you adjust the fit to your hand and your wraps.
The thumb is attached to the body of the glove so it does not bend away as much on impact. The outer is synthetic leather, here in khaki with a tonal 3D Venum lettering motif across the whole glove and white logos on the back of the hand and the cuff. Made in China.
Choosing the weight
How to choose the weight of your first gloves
The oz figure is the weight of the glove, which reflects the amount of padding, not the size of your hand. The higher the number, the more foam sits between your fist and the target.
We stock the Contender 1.5 XT 3D in 10, 12, 14 and 16 oz.
- Ask at your gymYour coach will tell you which weight to use on the bag and which for sparring.
- Allow for hand wrapsTry gloves on with your hand wrapped, otherwise they will feel tight later.
- Check the wristWith the strap fastened, the glove should not twist at the wrist or dig in.
Choosing your glove weight
Oz indicates the weight of one glove, not hand circumference. Athlete weight is only a general guide; the type of training also matters.
| Size | Athlete weight (kg) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 10 oz | 50–65 | Competition, subject to event rules |
| 12 oz | 65–75 | Bag and pad work |
| 14 oz | 75–85 | General training |
| 16 oz | 85–95 | Sparring |
Fit advice: Venum generally recommends 12–14 oz for bag and pad work and 16 oz or more for most adults’ sparring. Follow your coach’s guidance and competition rules. Try gloves on with your wraps.
Frequently asked questions
How does the entry-level Contender series differ from more expensive Venum models?
The Contender 1.5 XT 3D has a synthetic leather outer and multi-density injected foam. Higher-end models, the G-Core for instance, add triple-density foam, a reinforced palm and a longer cuff. The manufacturer recommends the Contender mainly for beginners.
Can I use them for my first sparring sessions?
Yes, the manufacturer explicitly lists sparring for this model. Check the weight with your coach, though, as many gyms require 16 oz for sparring.
What is semi-leather?
It is Venum's term for synthetic leather. It looks like leather, but it is not real leather.
How do I look after them?
After training, undo the hook-and-loop strap, let the gloves air out and wipe them with a damp cloth. Do not dry them on a radiator, do not machine wash them and do not store them damp in your bag.
Gloves soften the impact, but they do not rule out injury. Agree the pace and intensity of sparring with your partner and coach.

The gear UFC fighters walk out in
Venum is a French combat sports brand founded in 2006. Since 2021 it has been the UFC's exclusive outfitting partner, so UFC fighters step into the Octagon wearing Venum. The brand covers MMA, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, from first gloves to fight-night kit.
Venum pairs well-thought-out construction with bold design. Its gloves use multi-density foam, an attached thumb and wide hook-and-loop straps; its shorts and rashguards use lightweight stretch fabrics with reinforced seams. Many of its leather gloves are handmade in Thailand, the home of Muay Thai.
