Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D Sparring Gloves - Black/Gold
Product detailed description
Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D · Black/Gold
Entry-level sparring gloves for MMA training
In black with a gold logo, the Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D are MMA sparring gloves: foam absorbs your strikes and the open palm lets you grip. Choose them if you are starting out in MMA, Muay Thai or kickboxing and want gloves for regular classes. The manufacturer designs them for 3–4 sessions a week.

- Injected foam
- Thumb
- Attached along its full length

Attached thumb and a large hook-and-loop strap
Multi-density injected foam padding covers the knuckles and the back of the hand, while the palm is open and the fingers free, so you can grab your partner mid-exchange. The thumb is joined to the glove along its full length and bends away less on impact.
The large hook-and-loop strap fastens the glove firmly around the wrist, and the neoprene interior wicks sweat. The synthetic leather outer is black with a tonal 3D pattern, while the logo on the back of the hand and the lettering on the cuff are gold.
Choosing your size
Try them with wraps and a closed fist
Sizes S, M and L/XL are available. Ounces do not come into it here: the size of your hand decides.
If you are torn between two sizes, go with the one in which you can comfortably make a fist with your wraps on.
- Check the paddingWith your fist closed, your knuckles should sit under the foam, not at its edge.
- Check your fingersThe finger openings should not pinch or let the glove turn freely.
- Fasten up and shake your handA properly tightened glove does not shift at the wrist.
Size guide
Choose your size using hand circumference. Measurements are in centimetres.
| Size | Hand circumference (cm) |
|---|---|
| S | 16–18 |
| M | 19–21 |
| L/XL | 22 |
How to measure: Measure around your hand at the base of your fingers, excluding your thumb. Allow for the hand wraps you use.
Fit advice: Venum recommends the smaller option when between sizes. Account for your wraps and finger comfort. The manufacturer lists 22 cm as the reference circumference for L/XL.
Frequently asked questions
How do they differ from 4 oz competition gloves?
Competition MMA gloves have thin padding for fights. Sparring gloves, or "puffies" as Venum calls this type, have considerably more foam over the knuckles, so your partner takes less punishment. They keep the open palm and free fingers.
Should I wear hand wraps under them?
That depends on how things are done at your gym. If you use wraps, try the gloves on with them so there is still room to close your fist.
Why is one size labelled L/XL?
It is a single size that covers larger hands. The large hook-and-loop strap takes care of fine-tuning the fit at the wrist.
Can I use them on the heavy bag too?
They are designed for MMA training and sparring. Occasional bag work is possible, but the padding will wear faster than on boxing gloves built for the bag.
These gloves absorb impact, but no glove can make sparring injury-free. Always agree the intensity with your partner and coach.

The gear UFC fighters walk out in
Venum is a French combat sports brand founded in 2006. Since 2021 it has been the UFC's exclusive outfitting partner, so UFC fighters step into the Octagon wearing Venum. The brand covers MMA, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, from first gloves to fight-night kit.
Venum pairs well-thought-out construction with bold design. Its gloves use multi-density foam, an attached thumb and wide hook-and-loop straps; its shorts and rashguards use lightweight stretch fabrics with reinforced seams. Many of its leather gloves are handmade in Thailand, the home of Muay Thai.
