The Venum Contender 1.5 XT 3D are entry-level MMA sparring gloves: injected foam absorbs your strikes and the open palm lets you grab your partner. They are made for getting started in MMA, Muay Thai or kickboxing and for regular training, 3–4 times a week according to the manufacturer.

Multi-density foam and neoprene inside
Multi-density injected foam absorbs the impact of your strikes, while the flexible fit and open palm leave your fingers free for grips in grappling. The thumb is attached to the glove along its full length, so it bends away less on impact.
The neoprene interior helps wick sweat, and the large hook-and-loop strap fastens the glove firmly. The outer is khaki synthetic leather with a tonal 3D pattern of Venum lettering and a white logo on the back of the hand. According to the manufacturer, Contender is Venum's bestselling entry-level series.
Choosing your size
S, M or L/XL: your hand decides
We stock the Contender 1.5 XT 3D in sizes S, M and L/XL. Choose according to the size of your hand: unlike boxing gloves, MMA sparring gloves are not chosen by weight in ounces.
Once fastened, the glove should sit firmly at the wrist without turning. If you wear hand wraps, try it on with them.
- Put it on with your wrapsIf you use them, allow for their bulk when you try the glove on.
- Make a fistYour knuckles should sit in the middle of the padding, and your fingertips should not press against the ends of the finger openings.
- Tighten the wristThe strap should secure the glove without cutting off the circulation.

How to measure: Measure around your hand at the base of your fingers, excluding your thumb. Allow for the hand wraps you use.
Fit advice: Venum recommends the smaller option when between sizes. Account for your wraps and finger comfort. The manufacturer lists 22 cm as the reference circumference for L/XL.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use them for Muay Thai and kickboxing too?
Yes, the manufacturer lists them as suitable for MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing. For sparring, check with your coach which type of glove the class requires. Boxing sparring usually calls for boxing gloves.
Are they a good choice for my very first pair of gloves?
Yes. Contender is Venum's entry-level series and this model is built for regular training 3–4 times a week. Getting the right size and agreeing the intensity with your coach matter more than previous experience.
What does semi-leather mean?
It means synthetic leather: the outer contains no real leather. Inside the glove there is neoprene and foam padding.
How do I clean them?
After training, undo the strap and let them air dry, not on a radiator. Wipe the outer with a damp cloth. Do not machine wash them and do not shut them in your bag while damp.
Sparring gloves absorb impact, but they do not rule out injury. Match the pace and power of your strikes to your partner and your coach's instructions.
