Carbohydrate and electrolytes in one bottle
Citrus Vitargo supplies carbohydrate and four minerals in one drink before or during intense training or a race. It suits adults who want carbohydrates and electrolytes together in their bottle on longer runs, bike rides and other sports sessions. A serving contains 65 g of carbohydrate and 293 mg of sodium, plus potassium, calcium and magnesium.

Vitargo carbohydrate base
The base is high-molecular-weight maize starch. A 75 g serving supplies 65 g of carbohydrate and 0 g of sugars according to the nutrition table. It is a sports drink that also provides energy, for sessions where you want carbohydrates alongside your fluid intake.
The manufacturer states that Vitargo's high-molecular-weight starch has a low osmolality and in comparative studies left the stomach faster than maltodextrin.
Four minerals in a measured serving
A serving contains 293 mg of sodium, 79 mg of potassium, 105 mg of calcium and 41 mg of magnesium. Sodium is supplied as citrate; the other three minerals as gluconates. These amounts let you account for the drink in your sports nutrition plan.
Use and mixing
75 g makes 500–600 ml
- Measure 75 g of powder. Mix it into 200 ml of water for 30 seconds first.
- Once dissolved, top up with water to a final volume of 500–600 ml and shake.
- Drink before or during intense training or a race. Adjust the amount to the duration and intensity of exercise.
- Drink it 20–60 minutes before exercise. During exercise, you can start taking more after about 20 minutes.
The distributor's directions set an hourly maximum equivalent to 3,350 kJ / 800 kcal from the drink. This is an upper limit, not an intake target for every workout.

Carbohydrates after demanding exercise
Carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function (contraction) after highly intensive and/or long-lasting physical exercise leading to muscle fatigue and the depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscle.
The beneficial effect is obtained with the consumption of carbohydrates, from all sources, at a total intake of 4 g per kg body weight, at doses, within the first 4 hours and no later than 6 hours, following highly intensive and/or long-lasting physical exercise leading to muscle fatigue and the depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscle.
This use is intended for adults after the exercise described above. The total includes carbohydrates from both food and drinks.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a carbohydrate-free electrolyte drink?
No. Alongside the minerals, a serving provides 65 g of carbohydrate and 262 kcal. Choose it when you want both during sport. If you only want minerals without carbohydrates, choose a carbohydrate-free electrolyte product instead and check its ingredients.
How does it compare with the 1,500 g Grapes pack?
Citrus makes 10 servings and Grapes makes 20. Each serving supplies the same 65 g of carbohydrate and the same quantities of all four minerals. They differ in flavour (and the flavouring used), colour and pack size; the larger pack is not more concentrated.
How can it contain carbohydrate but 0 g of sugars?
The carbohydrate comes from starch. “Of which sugars” in the table refers to simple sugars, not all carbohydrates. The drink therefore supplies carbohydrate and energy despite the declared 0 g of sugars; acesulfame K and aspartame provide the sweet taste.
Is Vitargo gluten-free?
Yes. The Czech distributor, ForActiv, describes these drinks as gluten-free. The manufacturer, Vitargo AB, lists maize starch as the carbohydrate source. The drinks contain aspartame, so always note the phenylalanine warning.
