What is lipoic acid?

Lipoic acid is an organic compound that occurs naturally in the human body and is essential for energy metabolism. It functions as a coenzyme in the mitochondria, where it helps convert nutrients into energy. It is a powerful antioxidant itself, and one of lipoic acid's unique properties is its ability to regenerate other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, increasing their effectiveness. It may also lower blood sugar levels, improve insulin sensitivity, support joint health, nerve health, and glutathione production, and strengthen the immune system .

Why is RALA better than LALA?

Both names refer to different forms of lipoic acid. RALA (R-?-lipoic acid) is the naturally occurring and more biologically active form of lipoic acid, while LALA (S-?-lipoic acid) is of synthetic origin. RALA is therefore used by the body much more efficiently and its effects, such as supporting energy metabolism, neutralizing free radicals and protecting cells from oxidative stress, are more pronounced due to its absorption and stability.
