Cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3, is produced in the body after exposure to sunlight. It is a substance that is further converted (hydroxylated) in the body into the active forms 25-hydroxyvitamin and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin, which are already used by cells throughout the body.
