Product detailed description
Vitamin D - A VITAL substance and a major player in the health and strength of the human body and the immune system. Very often underestimated and insufficiently supplemented. For vital health, it is absolutely necessary not to avoid the sun, but on the contrary, to try to spend enough time outdoors in the light and fresh air. In addition to this important step for human health, immunity and the hormonal system, it is possible and very appropriate to take vit. D (which is naturally produced in the body when exposed to sunlight) should be supplemented through a whole food diet (animal superfoods and sources such as caviar, egg yolks, fish and their fresh, unoxidized liver oils, etc.) and/or specific dietary supplements (such as this one) that will help with higher needs and/or deficits in specific periods.
Vitamin D liposomal form for greater bioavailability of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol, source: lanolin cholesterol from sheep's wool). In licaps capsules, which reduce oxidation potential and extend shelf life.
Do you remember that wonderful feeling of inner strength and good mood when the weather is beautiful and sunny? These are precisely the moments that are important for the overall health of the body. When exposed to sunlight, we naturally produce vitamin D in the deep layers of our skin.
This important vitamin acts as a prohormone in the body. It acts on many levels of the organism, helping to maintain a harmonious state both physically and emotionally: thanks to vitamin D, we simply have vigor. It helps maintain healthy bones and muscles and is important in the process of cell division. This supports the body's natural vitality. And not only that, it also has a beneficial effect on the immune system.
If you don't get enough sun, it's helpful to supplement your vitamin D intake. This will keep your body running energetically.

Vitamin D contributes to:
- normal absorption/utilization of calcium and phosphorus
- normal blood calcium levels
- maintaining normal bone condition
- maintaining normal muscle function
- maintaining the normal condition of teeth
- immune system function
- Vitamin D is involved in the process of cell division.
This active vitamin D3 is important for the health of the immune system and also helps the absorption of calcium, which supports the health of bones and teeth.
WHAT IS "VITAMIN D"?
Under this name there are two known forms:
D2 – found in plant sources. Mushrooms exposed to sunlight are particularly rich in vitamin D2, but vitamin D2 has many times lower biological activity than vitamin D3.
D3 – found in animal products, it is a more active form of vitamin D.
Note: Our vitamin D is extracted from lanolin. It is created as a by-product of sheep wool, which remains after the necessary shearing of sheep.
Vitamin D – support for your health
You'll probably arrive at work while the sun is still low. You might leave your office and go to your car to get lunch, or you might eat at your desk and only get home at the end of the day, when the sun is far past its peak, let alone able to optimize your vitamin D.
Even if you do get out past noon, it may only be for a few moments. It is also likely that you are wearing long sleeves and long pants, preventing the sun from penetrating your skin.
At the same time, it is possible that after a long winter and no exposure to the sun, your skin starts the summer season with a very below-average level of vitamin D.
Vitamin D supports your overall health. Recent discoveries suggest that it has far-reaching effects beyond just our bone health.
Why do we need vitamin D?
Research suggests that up to 85% of people could be vitamin D deficient without knowing it. This means that they have impaired health. In fact, some scientists are calling for urgent action. Why?
Because current scientific research proves that all cells and tissues in the body are vitamin D receptors - and thus concludes that all cells and tissues need vitamin D for their proper and flawless functioning.
Not only that, vitamin D is responsible for regulating over 2,000 genes in the body.
Vitamin D is responsible for very complex metabolic processes. Scientists believe that vitamin D offers a wide range of essential biological functions related to many aspects of our health.
Liposomal vitamin D may offer greater potential for improving bioavailability and absorption of the nutrient compared to conventional non-liposomal vitamin D.
Traditional vitamin D does not have the same potential for bioavailability benefits. Non-liposomal vitamin D is absorbed by your intestinal tract much differently.
How is vitamin D absorption?
With constant dosage of vitamin D3, you need approximately 3 months of continuous dosing to achieve an increase and stabilization of the blood value. The optimal value is set in the range of 30-80 mcg/l.
Opinions on optimal values vary, with the average being 40-60 mcg/liter (40-60 ng/ml).
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2010 raised the upper limit of daily intake to 4,000 IU for adults over 19 years of age. For children, it set an upper limit of between 1000 - 3000 IU per day, depending on age.
Regarding concentration, the IOM has determined 50 mcg/l as a sufficient concentration for 97% of the population for normal development.
The values can be calculated according to the following table: http://unitslab.com/node/224
How much do we need daily?
Getting vitamin D from the sun is an individual matter. We can roughly say that 15-20 minutes of full-body exposure in July will provide approximately 15,000 IU of vitamin D (people with dark skin need twice as much time).
Tanning can be quite risky for many people (for people who have fair skin, little pigment, and the result is sunburn.) Tanning is about timing and assessing your options.
The following graph shows the relationship between participants reporting 41% fewer cases of the flu and 15% fewer cases of the cold. These were individuals with vitamin D levels above 40 ng/ml in the blood:
Below is the number of participants in another survey (1659 people), of which 17% were over 65 years old. Those who suffered a bone fracture had blood vitamin D levels below 40 ng/ml in most cases. In participants below 20 ng/ml, fracture outcomes were 3 times more common than in the group above 40 ng/ml. In general, it is necessary to ensure optimal intake of vitamin D, magnesium, protein, and calcium, as well as maintain optimal levels of vitamin C and K2.
Packaging quality matters
Why Dr. Mercola doesn't recommend soft-gel capsules:
soft gel is a standard that contains plasticizers for pliability and softness
plasticizers create microchanneling in the gelatin (some air permeability and odor of the contents)
permeability of the soft gel leads to oxidation and degradation of the contents
Dr. Mercola uses patented LICAPS® capsules from the manufacturer Capsugel.
Licaps is much more resistant to oxidative influences and preserves the contents in an intact form
Dr. Mercola is the only brand that prefers Licaps over soft gel capsules
Other products with LICAPS® technology (liposomal vitamin C, krill oil, Ubiquinol, alpha linolenic acid and Vitamin E)
Why remember to get enough vitamin D?
Too little vitamin D may not have any obvious outward symptoms. Yet vitamin D (specifically vitamin D3) supports an incredible range of systems and functions in the body.
How can you be sure you have enough vitamin D?
Some population groups are more likely to have lower vitamin D levels than others. But don't forget that it is estimated that 85% of people suffer from its deficiency. Are you one of the 85% or maybe one of these groups?
People with limited exposure to sunlight
During the long, grey winter months, you may need to supplement your vitamin D3 if you don't have access to a safe tanning bed.
However, even in the summer, many of us are like modern-day 'cavemen'. Most people have very little exposure to the sun, even in the summer. This may be due to working indoors during peak sunlight hours to avoid heat, or cultural clothing habits.
Even on the weekend when it's rainy, you may miss the sunlight. If this is your case, you probably don't get enough vitamin D.
And did you know that your car, home, and office windows block most of the sunlight your skin needs to produce vitamin D? So don't count on getting it inside – or in your car.
Furthermore, if you live in an industrial area with polluted air high in sulfur (acid rain) that blocks the sun's rays, your vitamin D levels are likely to be low as well.
Your bare skin needs to be exposed to direct sunlight for at least 10-15 minutes every day to produce the vitamin D you need. Like windows, jackets and long pants block valuable solar wavelengths.
Overweight people
Individuals who are overweight often have a significantly higher need for vitamin D because vitamin D is fat-soluble and hidden in their fat.
Pregnant women
New evidence suggests that vitamin D levels during pregnancy may be crucial for you and your baby.
The elderly
You are at an age where your skin loses its ability to produce vitamin D. Additionally, older people tend to spend more time indoors.
Dark-skinned people
People with darker skin have higher levels of melanin, which blocks UVB radiation and limits the body's ability to produce vitamin D3. What's more, vitamin D is very rarely found in foods and is only available in very limited quantities, e.g. in eggs, liver, organs, caviar and fatty fish.
