The idea of using earthworms for health is nothing new.

Lumbrokinase are complex enzymes that contain a bioactive protein that is responsible for their many potentially beneficial health properties.

This group of enzymes got its name after a Japanese doctor named H. Mihara and his colleagues extracted them from earthworm species in 1991.

Although earthworms have been used in traditional Chinese practice for thousands of years, it is only recently that earthworm fibrinolytic enzymes, or EFEs, have become available.

The researchers found that EFE is a mixture of six enzymes – all components of serine proteases with different fibrinolytic activities.

These EFEs, or lumbrokinase as it is called, are effective at breaking down and helping your body get rid of fibrin and other unwanted proteins.
