More than 70 animal and human studies have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals revealing how cranberries support urinary tract health.

Scientists initially believed that cranberry was valuable for bladder and urinary tract health because it could lower the pH of the urinary tract.

However, they then discovered that cranberries contain naturally occurring compounds that act directly in the urinary tract.

One of these compounds is proanthocyanidins (PACs), phytochemicals that provide antioxidant and protective properties in the mouth, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract.

PACs are also found naturally in green tea, grapes, apples, and chocolate. However, the type of PAC found in cranberries—called type A PAC—is different from the type B PAC found in these other foods.

Studies show that cranberry PACs alone can potentially prevent hostile invaders from attaching to the walls of the urinary tract.

Although D-mannose is a type of sugar, it has very unique properties. Unlike other sugars, it is not converted into glycogen or stored in the liver.

The body metabolizes very little D-mannose, so it does not affect blood sugar levels or increase your body's metabolic functions.

Key effect: when D-mannose gets into your urine, you may encounter unwelcome residents, pathogens, in your urinary tract. Upon contact, it "dresses" the intruder and carries them away during normal urination. This leads to a synergistic effect with cranberry extract and the PAC effect.

D-mannose also helps nourish healthy flora. Unlike other sugars, it does not disrupt or affect the activity of the "friendly" bacteria of the microbiome.

4. Take a shower instead of a bath.

6. Avoid feminine deodorants, sprays, douches, and powders, which can lead to irritation of the urethra and genitals.
