Fresh and pure fish oils of the highest quality

Wild-caught fatty fish such as cod, herring or mackerel are a very good source of unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA. Fish with a low fat content, such as tilapia or pangasius, however, contain very little of these important nutrients. Pure Arctic fish oil is therefore ideal for anyone who does not like to eat fatty fish. Omega-3s are very important building blocks, 20% of the fat in our brain is DHA.

Permitted health claims under Commission Regulations (EU) No. 432/2012, No. 536/2013 and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006:

DHA contributes to maintaining normal brain function / DHA contributes to maintaining normal vision / EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function / DHA and EPA contribute to maintaining normal blood triglyceride levels / DHA and EPA contribute to maintaining normal blood pressure

Sustainable fishing - MSC certification

For sustainability , it is necessary to protect food resources in the form of marine animals, without harming the oceans, the environment or local communities. Therefore, products made from whole minced fish or many small fish will not receive this certification. Grinding a whole fish is highly uneconomical, a sustainable option is to use the trimmings left over from using the fish for meat. Arctic Blue oils are therefore made from cod fillet trimmings. Due to their lower price, a lot of fish oils are made from sardines and anchovies, small fish with a typical strong salty taste that were considered unsaleable waste 70 years ago. Just to give you an idea - it takes 30 anchovies to make one fish oil capsule. Such fishing is called reduction fishery and is inherently completely unsustainable - it wastefully destroys entire fish populations, which are used only for oil, and the meat is used as food for livestock. And because small fish like sardines or anchovies are a food source for larger species like dolphins or seabirds, this fishing disrupts the marine ecosystem.

Highest purity with respect for nature

Pure Arctic MSC fish oil is produced from fresh fillet trimmings of wild Arctic cod. These fish live in the Barents Sea, which lies between Novaya Zemlya, Svalbard, and northern Norway. These are some of the cleanest waters in the world, which cannot be compared to the plastic soup in the Pacific between Asia and South America without exaggeration. Arctic Blue fish oil is tested for the presence of over 200 possible chemicals, especially heavy metals, PCBs and dioxins. In the next step, the oil is cleaned with advanced technologies. The result is an extremely pure fish oil suitable for young children and pregnant women.

Pure Arctic MSC fish oil is produced according to GMP. The Good Manufacturing Practice standard is the most stringent quality assurance system for dietary supplements that exists. It records in great detail how and under what conditions the product is manufactured. Pure Arctic MSC Fish Oil offers exclusive purity and parameters, testing with no detectable cadmium down to 50 ppb (parts per billion) and no detectable mercury down to 10 ppb. This is up to 10 times below the Norwegian medical standard and the European Pharmacopoeia, which we as manufacturers must comply with by law.

Pure Arctic MSC fish oil is also regularly tested to 0.5 ppt with no dioxins or furans detected. The Norwegian medical standard and the European Pharmacopoeia limits here are 2 ppt (parts per billion). These independent analyses are carried out in renowned international laboratories using the testing methodology set by the World Health Organization (WHO). Pure Arctic MSC Fish Oil shows no detectable PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) during tests down to 0.5 ppt. The Norwegian standard medical limit for PCBs is 3 ppt.

Fresh wild fish oil

Freshness is equally important for oil, along with purity. It reflects the status of delicate omega-3 fatty acids. Freshness can of course be measured by smelling or tasting. Fresh oil will never smell like fish. Freshness can also be measured very precisely in a laboratory and then expressed as a number. This is called the Totox value (Total Oxidation Value). The Totox value of Arctic Blue oils is measured regularly. In many analyses, the degree of oxidation is measured only by the peroxide value. This is insufficient because the peroxides are still further converted. We therefore also measure a second indicator, the anisidine value. Only with both of these values can the correct overall oxidation and freshness be determined.

This is an internationally recognized value for identifying oxidation in oil. The lower the number, the fresher the oil. The European standard for Totox value is 26. In our opinion, this is an absurdly high number and we are happy that we are below 1/3 of this value and We can therefore guarantee an exceptionally safe and high-quality product. The peroxide value of Pure Arctic MSC fish oil for capsules is always between 0 and 0.5 and the anisidine value < 1 or < 2, so the Totox value is < 2 or < 3. Filling the bottle or making a capsule increases the Totox value slightly, bringing the Arctic Blue MSC and Algae Oil fish oil capsule to the usual value of 5 with a maximum deviation of 5-10.

Some brands offering omega-3 fats very often and intentionally list the Totox value of the original raw material, i.e. fish oil, before bottling/encapsulating it into the final product. A fair manufacturer will always state the actual Totox value, i.e. the value that corresponds to the state after bottling the oil. Artic Blue is of course based on an honest and serious approach to the customer.

A sophisticated combination of antioxidants is used to prevent damage to sensitive omega-3 fatty acids after production . These are extracts rich in tocopherols (various types of vitamin E), rosemary extract and ascorbyl palmitate (fat-soluble vitamin C). A low oxidation value is not better for our body compared to stale oil, but it also guarantees that we do not have to add any artificial flavors that would mask the oxidized oil. Low oxidation also gives it a mild flavor, so the oil can be conveniently consumed straight from a spoon, added to yogurt, smoothies, shakes, or any cold dish. When choosing fish oil, it is therefore a good idea to always ask about the oxidation value.

What is the ideal ratio between DHA and EPA?

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are very similar. The only difference is that DHA has 22 carbons in its chain, while EPA has 20 carbons. DHA has properties related to tissue building, while EPA has properties related to oxidative stress. But the body is very smart - it converts DHA into EPA as needed (just remove two carbons). With sufficient DHA intake, the body regulates the ratio between DHA and EPA itself. This is especially important for the brain, heart and nervous system.

In its original and natural form

Pure Arctic MSC fish oil only exists in its natural form, the so-called triglyceride form. Just like all fats are found in fish. Nature invented it for us, this way the fats contained are most stable. That's why we never use unnatural ethyl ester. Ethyl esters are unstable fats with reduced absorption, a high risk of oxidation and an unpleasant taste after consumption. They are used because they are easier to produce and cheaper. The triglyceride form, on the other hand, is natural, stable, and well absorbed by the body.

There is also a moral dimension, as using whole fish (sardines and anchovies) for oil consumes an incredible amount of fish that could be used for human consumption. Moreover, these fish are mostly caught on the other side of the world, so we prefer that they remain for local fishermen or larger marine animals who will enjoy them.

We support sustainability and balance

One of our guiding principles is that we do not use krill oil and other commercial sources such as concentrated fish oil from sardines and anchovies as a source. The reason is the important fact that krill oil is an essential food for whales. Commercial omega 3 oils, focused on quantity and low price, are made from whole, ground fish. Such oil can never receive MSC certification. We believe that it is better and more ethical to produce oil from fish waste after it has already been used for meat. In addition, anchovies are food for dolphins, sea lions, whales and seabirds.

Most of our liquid product packaging is made of glass with minimal plastic (in paper boxes). Capsule products are packaged in biodegradable (compostable) bags (plastic-free). Fish collagen powder is packaged in bioplastic packaging made from sugar cane.
