Pure algae and hemp oils - an ideal and ethical source of omega 3 Fresh hemp oil contains omega-3 ALA. The human body converts ALA into the omega-3 EPA and DHA as needed. In addition, hemp oil is a rich source of omega-6 and omega-9. Hemp oil, together with algae oil, forms a rich omega-3-6-9 dietary supplement with a complex source of omega fatty acids and added vitamin D. Algae oil is made from algae, which is why it is also sometimes called vegan fish oil. How so? Fish oil is made from the fat of fish that have gained their fat reserves by eating algae. Algae are a source of omega-3 fatty acids for fish. Algal oil is therefore the only oil in the world that contains the same omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) as fish oil. Permitted health claims under Commission Regulations (EU) No. 432/2012, No. 536/2013 and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006: DHA contributes to maintaining normal brain function / DHA contributes to maintaining normal vision / EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function / DHA and EPA contribute to maintaining normal blood triglyceride levels / DHA and EPA contribute to maintaining normal blood pressure Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilization of calcium and phosphorus / Vitamin D contributes to normal blood calcium levels / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth / Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system / Vitamin D is involved in the process of cell division |
Algae - the food of the future Algae are increasingly being used and will certainly be the food of the future. They are miniature plants that produce their own omega-3 fatty acids. Even on the ground in a closed and controlled environment. In nature, this works by having algae transfer their omega-3s to the fish that consume them. Algae oil is actually just as strong and of the same quality as fish oil. Arctic Blue produces its oil from cultured algae in a controlled environment, ensuring that the oil contains no contamination from the ocean. Arctic Blue Algae oil is 100% vegan, no fish oil was used in its production. The capsules are also vegan, the gelatin has also been replaced with seaweed. Plant-based alternative to fish oil Algae are single-celled plants found in both rivers and oceans. There are many types, but only one type produces the right omega-3s in large quantities. It is a species of Schizochytrium from which we extract our algae oil. Just as probiotic cultures or brewer's yeast in large containers do their job, algae grow in a controlled manner to a strong density. The oil is then extracted from them. The first attempts to grow algae under terrestrial conditions only produced algae DHA oil. However, algae can be naturally directed to the point where they produce EPA oil and/or EPA/DHA oil. Algae oil is thus a perfect alternative to fish oil. When choosing algae oil, you should pay attention to the following characteristics: official vegan designation/certification, amount of EPA/DHA, and absence of unpleasant aftertaste and odor. According to these basic points , quality and freshness can be distinguished. At Arctic Blue we guarantee this 100%, we also regularly measure the freshness of algae oil in the laboratory. As with fish oil, algae oil is also measured by the so-called Totox value = total oxidation value. |
What is the ideal ratio between DHA and EPA? DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are very similar. The only difference is that DHA has 22 carbons in its chain, while EPA has 20 carbons. DHA has properties related to tissue building, while EPA has properties related to oxidative stress. But the body is very smart - it converts DHA into EPA as needed (just remove two carbons). With sufficient DHA intake, the body regulates the ratio between DHA and EPA itself. This is especially important for the brain, heart and nervous system. |
Fresh oil from organically grown algae Algae oil contains the same omega-3s as fish oil, so it is naturally prone to oxidation in exactly the same way. Our algae oil is filled into bottles and capsules in a fresh state, which guarantees both the preservation of omega-3 and no unpleasant odor or aftertaste. We help it stay fresh exclusively with natural antioxidants. Freshness can of course be measured by smelling or tasting - fresh oil will never smell of an odor. But freshness can also be measured very precisely in a laboratory and then expressed as a number. The Totox value of Arctic Blue oils is measured regularly. In many analyses, the degree of oxidation is measured only by the peroxide value. This is insufficient because the peroxides are still further converted. We therefore also measure a second indicator, the anisidine value. Only with both of these values can the correct overall oxidation and freshness be determined. This is an internationally recognized value for detecting oxidation in oil. The lower the number, the fresher the oil. The European standard for Totox value is 26. In our opinion, this is an absurdly high number and we are happy that we are below 1/3 of this value and can thus guarantee an exceptionally safe and high-quality product. The peroxide value of Pure Arctic MSC fish oil for capsules is always between 0 and 0.5 and the anisidine value < 1 or < 2, so the Totox value is < 2 or < 3. Filling the bottle or making a capsule increases the Totox value slightly, bringing the Arctic Blue MSC and Algae Oil fish oil capsule to the usual value of 5 with a maximum deviation of 5-10. Some brands offering omega-3 fats very often and intentionally list the Totox value of the original raw material, i.e. fish oil, before bottling/encapsulating it into the final product. A fair manufacturer will always state the actual Totox value, i.e. the value that corresponds to the state after bottling the oil. Artic Blue is of course based on an honest and serious approach to the customer. |
